Fordwich
Fordwich is listed in the Domesday Book as a small village. Although many miles inland, it was the main port for Canterbury, before the Wantsum Channel silted up making the Isle of Thanet part of mainland England. All of the Caen stone used by the Normans to rebuild Canterbury Cathedral in the 12th and 13th centuries was landed at Fordwich. In 1880, Fordwich lost its status as a town because it no longer had a Mayor and Corporation. However, in 1972, Fordwich was again made a town as much as anything because of its prior importance.
Fordwich is noteworthy for its beautiful historic buildings.

The Town Hall reminds us of the building where Bob, Alison, and Peter chased the Glue Man.

The beautiful Manor House (Colpeper Institute). It is officially listed as dating from the 17th century, but more recent carbon dating of timbers indicate a date of mid 16th century. The property has been valued at £895,000.
